floors. Certain aspects of the remodeled building stand out. All employees have similar workspaces in a very open floor plan; no one has a separate office. Additionally, every workstation is outfit with a convert- ible desk for sitting and standing. The updated building also includes a new lounge for employees. Rich Watts, VP of information technology, gave and overview of the IT department. Watts also detailed the levels of redundancy, between the company's Ogden, Utah, and Rexburg, Idaho, loca- tions, for alarm communications. Madison Barlow, company direc- tor of training and quality assur- ance, outlined the training process for new employees, including a written exam to in-call center train- ing. This process is followed by quality assurance audits. Below is an overview of the conference's educational sessions, events and keynote presentations from Security Systems News' man- aging editor Spencer Ives, who attended the event. To kick off this year's PERS Sum- mit, AvantGuard hosted a tour of its recently remodeled Ogden, Utah, headquarters. Small groups of about eight people each were shown each department. The remodel was extensive, and involved moving entire depart- ments across the building's three By Paul Ragusa MORRIS PLAINS, N.J.—Honeywell announced plans to spin its $4.5 billion Home and ADI Global Dis- tribution business, which includes its security business, and its $3.0 billion Transportation Systems business, into two independent, publicly-traded companies by the end of 2018. The planned separa- tion transactions are intended to be tax-free spins to Honeywell share- owners for U.S. federal income tax purposes. The com- pany is exclusively partnering with MONI Smart Secu- rity for pro- f e s s i o n a l monitoring at launch. "Nest is d e l i v e r i n g on the next phase of our strategy to create the thoughtful home," Marwan Fawaz, chief executive officer of Nest, said in the press release. "We've had quite a year so far, expanding into 11 more countries, grow- ing our product portfolio with the successful launches of Nest Cam IQ indoor and the Nest Thermostat E, and today we're disrupting yet another product industry: home security. By building product experiences our customers love, Nest has experienced more than 60 per- cent growth on devices shipped in recent years and continues to expand to millions of homes around the world." Nest announced a range of new products. The Nest Secure alarm system comes with Nest Guard, an alarm, keypad and a motion sensor; Nest Detect, a sensor that monitors both motion and open or close Nest is exclusively partnering with MONI at launch Honeywell Security and Fire, told Security Systems News, noting that the fire safety business will remain part of Honeywell.
