and the Consumerization of Security, at SSN's Cloud+ conference, Nov. 28 and 29 in Austin, Texas, featuring a panel of three top integra- tors—Jeremy Brecher, CTO, Securitas, Jeff Frye, SVP, Interface Security Systems and Pierre Trapanese, CEO, Northland Control Systems In addition to Van Till's session, Cloud+ provides an ideal educational forum for any- body looking to leverage the cloud to provide cutting-edge technologies. See you there! Are you up on cloud? You should be! A s I walked around the show fl oor at ASIS International 2017, one of the prevailing themes was increased adop- tion of cloud-based technology and comput- ing within security. Many dealers, integra- tors and suppliers are emphasizing how valu- able data is today, and how important it is to protect that data and use cloud computing to mine it for actionable info. Security Systems News 2017 "20 under 40" End User winner Michael Glasser, who is the North America security consulting manager for Microsoft Global Security/LMC Consulting, sees "increased leveraging of video technology and data by allowing the cloud to process it," he said, not- ing that the industry can benefi t from deep learning in the future, as business intelligence "is by far the biggest technology trend I see coming." What Glasser and many of our "20 under 40" winners on the end user side pointed out, physical and information security are merg- ing, as IT plays a much more dominant role in security today. Brivo CEO Steve Van Till told SSN that the cloud will be the key for harnessing the most exciting emerging technologies today. "The cloud is implicated in easier installa- tion, greater ease of use for the users, but the other thing with the cloud is it really is the platform for everything," said Van Till. "All of the interesting things that are happening with mobile are connected to the cloud. All of the interesting things happening with AI are hap- pening in the cloud, so if you go through any of the advancing technology sectors, cloud is foundational to all of them. If you want to be part of AI, big data and IoT, you are going to be on a cloud platform. So saying you are not going to believe in the cloud or the cloud is not secure, you are really cutting yourself off from most of the new advances in technology generally."
