The mar- ket is stalling and may even be shrinking, it says. The June report, "Connected Home or Ho-Hum?" says that consumer demand for connected home products dropped 15 per- cent in May of this year from May 2014 and is continuing to decline. Advance Technology president Simopoulos says newly created executive staff keeps integration fi rm on an 'upward trend' By Amy Canfi eld CARLSBAD, Calif.—Nortek Secu- rity & Control has purchased Numera for a reported $12 mil- lion. Numera, based in Seattle with reported net sales of not more than $3 million in 2014, now becomes Nortek's fl ag- ship brand in the health and wellness space, Duane Paulson, SVP of product and market development for Nortek Security & Control told Security Systems News. By Spencer Ives CHICAGO—A recent NFPA vote that may result in restric- tion for central stations on mat- ters of fire alarm monitoring should serve as a wake-up call to the security industry to be more involved with the Nation- al Fire Protection Association. At its annual meeting here in Chicago, the NFPA approved a Motion 72-9 "that reinforced an AHJ's authority to deter- mine who can and who can- not monitor fire alarms," Jay IESA's Kevin Lehan says alarm industry need to be more in tune with NFPA activity Numera's name and branding will remain the same, he said, and will fall under the Nortek umbrella, which includes 2GIG and Go!Control. Nortek has been in the PERS business for some time, Paulson said, but "one trend we clear- ly saw was the move- ment to mobile PERS." "Elderly people are more robust today— my mother has no sec- ond thoughts about getting on a plane to visit her ARGUS see page 27 NORTEK see page 34 By Martha Entwistle SCARBOROUGH, Maine—Advance Technology president Rob Simo- poulos credits a management reorganization with helping pro- pel the company's growth. Simo- poulos is projecting revenues of $9 million this year, a 37 percent increase over 2014. "Last year, we took a look at the way we were built as an organi- zation," Simopoulos told Security Systems News. The company was getting too big for Simopoulos to manage every aspect of the business. He said he read an SSN story where PSA Security CEO Bill Bozeman "discussed needing a manage- ment team to break through ADVANCE see page 22 engineering manager Caleb Gaul and director of fi nance and accounting Mark Boutin." "Putting that management group in place has kept us on an President predicts acquisition will position Nortek at the forefront of 'aging in place,' trend Duane Paulson Consumers ho-hum on home automation Hauhn, executive director for the CSAA, told Security Systems News. Specifi cally, an AHJ can deny central stations the ability to monitor fi re alarms. NFPA motion 72-9, which would have removed the sec- tion referring to central stations completely, was withdrawn after 72-8 was passed. Proponents of motion 72-8 were primarily from Chicago fi re departments, some of which operate their own monitoring those revenue levels. That opened my eyes. About one year ago I built out a management team comprising of sales manager Kristina Johnson, operations manager Michelle Leach, design NFPA see page 25 Contrary to security industry buzz, Argus Insight report says home auto in decline Advance Technology operations manager Michelle Leach adjusts the sensor layout of an Arecont Vision SurroundVideo Omni Camera.
